P&O Ferries is one of the main ferry firms which travels between the UK and Europe. It has announced sailings have been put on hold.

Services between Dover and Calais will temporarily not go ahead.

Some reports state this is down to an operational “incident” and a big announcement is set to come today.

Posting on Twitter, the company wrote: “Regretfully, P&O Ferries services are unable to run for the next few hours. Our Port Teams will guide you and travel will be arranged via an alternative operator.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this will have on your journey plans.”

P&O added there is set to be a company announcement.

“P&O Ferries is not going into liquidation. We have asked all ships to come alongside, in preparation for a company announcement,” a P&O spokesperson stated.

“Until then, services from P&O will not be running and we are advising travellers of alternative arrangements.”

The travel suspension is predicted to last a few hours, according to P&O.
