Popular ‘90s Cartoon Swat-Kats is Getting A Reboot After Almost Three Decades

Popular cartoon from the ‘90s, Swat-Kats, is making a comeback and is now titled “Swat-Kats: Revolution”. Indian company Toonz Media Group is collaborating with Christian and Yvon Tremblay to continue the adventures of Razor and T-Bone.

The ‘90s cartoon was aired on Cartoon Network in India and was a smash hit amongst younger audiences at the time. The show featured the story of Jake “Razor” Clawson and Chance “T-Bone” Furlong who were ex-military officers that were discharged from duty for disobeying direct orders. However, to keep their city safe, they took matters into their own hands and built a three-engine jet from scrap and became the SWAT-Kats.

The show’s revival is indeed a welcome surprise, but it has been in the works for quite some time. Back in 2015, Christian and Yvon Tremblay started a Kickstarter campaign to fund their goal of reviving this cartoon. However, they went through their fair share of struggles as they couldn’t find someone to take it up despite Warner Bros. initially showing interest in the reboot. “Hulu passed, Netflix passed, Warner Bros passed. Amazon was not really the place for it and changed its animated content approach. A fairly important movie producer wanted to bring Swat-Kats to Netflix, where he has an output deal, but ultimately, the deal did not make sense for us.” Said Christian in an update in 2020.

Now, things are looking bright for the popular cartoon as Toonz Media Group has taken up the project and will be helping in reviving it. As Kidscreen reported, Swat-Kats: Revolution will be available globally thanks to Toonz who launched their own kids channel in 2021.

The adventures of T-Bone and Razor in Megakat city will definitely bring back some fond memories for the ‘90s kids and we can’t wait to see how it turns out.
