Princess Eugenie wears ‘remarkable’ engagement ring and royal fans think it’s a ‘knockout’

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank tied the knot on October 12, 2018 in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. The royal looked absolutely beautiful in a Peter Pilotto gown.

Maxwell Stone, creative director at jewellers Steven Stone, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about Eugenie’s engagement ring.

Diamonds are the typical choice for both royal and non-royal engagement rings.

Meghan Markle, Queen Elizabeth II, Camilla and Princess Beatrice were all given diamond engagement rings.

However, when selecting Eugenie’s ring, Jack went for something more “unusual” yet “remarkable” – a pink sapphire.

Maxwell stated: “Princess Eugenie doesn’t have a traditional diamond at the centre of her engagement ring design.

“Instead, she received a Padparadscha sapphire from Jack Brooksbank.

“These are extremely rare stones which many people haven’t even heard of.

“They are strikingly beautiful with unique shades of pink and orange, often resembling the colours of a sunset.”

DON’T MISS…

It is a rather similar colour to Eugenie’s mother Sarah Ferguson’s engagement ring, a ruby lined with diamonds.

Kate Middleton also wears a unique engagement ring with a central Ceylon sapphire, inherited from Princess Diana.

Jack Brooksbank told the BBC that the reason he chose this particular stone was that it changes colour from every angle you look at it – just like Eugenie. He said: “She changes colour, and it’s just so amazing.”

Jon White, director of leading precious metals buyer Gold-Traders, also spoke to Express.co.uk about the stone.

“The Padparadscha Sapphire is the most rare and therefore valuable sapphire on the market.

“First discovered in Sri Lanka, the gemstone can now also be found in Madagascar and Tanzania, however it is still incredibly rare. The sapphire is a beautiful, ‘unique’ blend of pink and orange.

“The word ‘padparadscha’ comes from the Sinhalese word for lotus blossom, and it symbolises the same values as the flower it’s named after – purity, good health and good luck.”

Royal fans took to Instagram to compliment the Princess’ engagement ring. @cjdinpgh stated: “I love how the royals opt for non-traditional engagement rings. I’d be proud to have a unique ring like this.”

@victoriadounis called the ring a “knockout sapphire”, while @gailliebetrau said “I love the ring”.
