Punjab pile up 209-9 against Bangalore

Jonny Bairstow’s opening blitzkrieg found its ideal match in Liam Livingstone’s finishing carnage as the Punjab Kings put up an imposing 209 for 9 in a must-win Indian Premier League encounter against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Brabourne Stadium here on Friday.

Kohli out early again

In reply, RCB’s Virat Kohli was out early once again. He scored  just 20 before a short one from  pacer Kagiso Rabada saw him give a catch to Rahul Chahar at short fine leg. At the time of going to press, RCB were 41-3 after five overs.

Earlier, while Bairstow laid the foundation for PBKS with a 29-ball-66, Livingstone made a 42-ball-70 as the RCB bowlers had a day to forget. Bairstow, who was rusty during the earlier phase of the tournament, was back in his element with as many as seven sixes and four boundaries during a knock where he literally went hell for leather.

Punjab hammer away

Punjab Kings got 83 in six overs with Glenn Maxwell (1-17 in 2 overs), Josh Hazlewood (0-64 in 4 overs) and Mohammed Siraj (0-36 in 2 overs) being treated with utter disdain.
