Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Chipset Spotted on Company’s Website, Could use 7nm Process

Mobile Processor giant Qualcomm has just launched its 2017 chipcet, the Snapdragon 835, in some of the flagship smartphones such as the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and Xiaomi Mi 6. 835 chipset is also expected to power the upcoming OnePlus 5 and other flagship smartphones. And while this is just the beginning, reports about next Snapdragon 845 have already started surfacing.

It appears the next flagship mobile processor is already in trial, as Qualcomm next flagship platform Snapdragon 845 (SDM845) has recently spotted on the company’s official website along with other upcoming chipsets like the Snapdragon 660 (SDM660) and Snapdragon 630 (SDM630). Reports suggested that the 845 SoC will be built on a new faster, more efficient 7nm fabrication process.

The Next flagship chipset is rumoured to debut next year with the Samsung’s next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S9. Samsung may release the smartphone in its regular time frame – at MWC 2018 in Barcelona. The annual tech conference is set to take place in 2018 between February 28 and March 1.

Qualcomm’s current flagship platform, the Snapdragon 835, uses a 10nm fabrication process while Snapdragon 820 and Snapdragon 821 were built on the 14nm fabrication process, dropping the size from 14nm to 10nm and now 7nm is expected to increase performance by up to 30 to 35 percent. Apart from Snapdragon other companies like Huawei, MediaTek and Nvidia are also working on 7nm fabrication process for manufacturing their next flagship SoC.

Qualcomm is expected to announce its Snapdragon 660 SoC tomorrow. The Snapdragon 660 will be the successor of 653 SoC and expected to be an octa-core chipset featuring four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.3GHz, and other four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.9GHz. It is expected to have UFS 2.1 storage and dual-channel LPDDR4 RAMs with max clock speeds of 1866MHz. It is also expected to features the new Adreno 512 GPU, and the X10 LTE mode. Support for Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging technology.
