Ralf Rangnick simple trick to get Cristiano Ronaldo firing at Man Utd again | Football | Sport

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo is fast becoming a problem with his lack of goals and Ralf Rangnick must conjure up a way to get the Portugal international firing again. Fortunately, there is one player who could be the answer.

As United stumbled yet again in the Premier League, this time to Southampton, one player cut a forlorn figure.

Ronaldo once again failed to get on the scoresheet – meaning he has now gone six matches without putting one in the net.

This is now his worst run in front of goal since 2009 and there are real question marks over whether or not the striker is a fading force.

It would seem remarkable to write off a player that has scored 101 goals over the past three years while his incredible talent alone could take United back to the top.

But it is about tapping into that power correctly – how does Rangnick get the best out of the 37-year-old?

Turn the clocks back to the 2014/15 season when Ronaldo had his most monstrous campaign – scoring 61 times in 54 appearances for Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti was the man at the helm for Los Blancos then, as he is now, and his simple tactic could be one that is easily replicable at Old Trafford.

Up front with Ronaldo at the Bernabeu was Karim Benzema, a willing servant who perhaps even sacrificed part of his own game, though he still managed 22 goals that season.

United have the perfect forward to fulfil those duties in Edinson Cavani, who has even operated a similar role at Paris Saint-Germain with fellow forwards Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Rangnick is yet to try the duo up front – despite the fact that between them, they have scored well over 1,000 goals throughout their careers.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tried it once and it worked brilliantly, beating Tottenham 3-0 while both veteran strikers got on the scoresheet.

Despite stumbling across a winning formula, the Norwegian failed to name the same duo up front again – three matches and no wins later and he was sacked.

United’s interim coach has tried a variation of attacking line-ups yet has been reluctant to try his best two forwards together.

And at a time when the Red Devils are desperate for a victory, having his best arsenal of weaponry on the pitch at the same time will be crucial.
