Twitter has dissolved the Trust & Safety Council, an advisory group formed in 2016 that helped the company in content moderation on a global level. The group consisted of roughly 100 independent researchers and human rights activists. The employees reportedly received an email on Monday night (December 12) announcing the dissolution of the group.
Twitter Trust & Safety Council provided the social media network inputs on human rights-related issues such as the removal of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), suicide prevention, and online safety. The email was viewed by The Wall Street Journal and journalist Anthony DeRosa shared the email via his Twitter handle.
Dear Trust and Safety Council Members,
As Twitter moves into a new phase, we are reevaluating how best to bring external insights into our product and policy development work. As part of this process, we have decided that the Trust and Safety Council is not the best structure to do this.
Our work to make Twitter a safe, informative place will be moving faster and more aggressively than ever before and we will continue to welcome your ideas going forward about how to achieve this goal. We will also continue to explore opportunities to provide focussed and timely input into our work, whether through bilateral or small group meetings.
Your regional points of contact will remain the best people to contact to escalate concerns, please let us know if you need reconnecting.
We are grateful for your engagement, advice and collaboration in recent years and wish you every success in the future.

As per a report by TechCrunch, the email disbanding its Trust and Safety Council was sent before the council was scheduled to meet with its new head.
Ella Irwin joined the company as the team head in June. The council was also supposed to meet Nick Pickles, senior director for global public policy strategy, development and partnerships, The Wall Street Journal cited a person familiar with the matter as saying.

Twitter’s content moderation council
Earlier this year, Elon Musk said Twitter will be convening a content moderation council and any major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen after such a body has convened. However, there is still no information on the council and Twitter has already reinstated accounts, including of former US President Donald Trump.
