Xiaomi launched its second Android tablet Redmi Pad in India recently. This is the first affordable Android tablet of the company which packs a lot of useful hardware and software features. The device comes with a starting price tag of Rs 14,999 and it claims to offer an all round user experience. We used the Redmi Pad some time and here’s our initial impressions of the same.
Design
Redmi Pad offers a premium metal unibody design and weighs 465 grams. The sleek and stylish Android tablet comes in three colour options — Graphite Grey, Mint Green and Moonlight Silver. Redmi Pad will definitely impress you with its trendy and elegant design. The rear of the tablet offers a smooth finish and houses a single lens 8MP camera. The front is dominated by a large display surrounded by uniform bezels on all sides. The power button is placed on the top and the USB Type C case is at the bottom. The device comes with four speakers but it lacks a 3.5mm audio jack. In all the tablet does look good.
Display
Redmi Pad sports a 10.61-inch 2K display with 2000 x 1200 pixel resolution. The company claims that it is the first Android tablet in this price segment to offer a display with 90Hz refresh rate. The display on the tablet comes with SGS in-built eye protection and promises to deliver a comfortable viewing experience without straining the eyes. The 15:9 aspect ratio of the display offers more screen real-estate to the users and the not so thick bezels work in its favour. The display on the Redmi Pad is bright and sharp. The colour reproduction is also fine and it also offers good visibility under direct sunlight.
Hardware and software
Redmi Pad is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio G99 chipset paired with up to 6GB of RAM. The tablet comes in two stoarge options 64GB and 128GB. Users can further expand the storage by adding a microSD card. The company claims that the MediaTek processor will offer lag free gaming. During our initial testing the Android tablet performed really well and we did not face any lag. Along with this, the Android tablet is backed by an 8,000 mAh battery with 18W charging support. The company claims that the device will offer a long lasting battery. However, for the complete battery analysis you will have to wait for our complete review.
Redmi Pad features a 8MP rear and 8MP front camera. The camera on the Redmi Pad performs well and you can easily capture vibrant and crisp images during daytime. On the other hand the 8MP front shooter also works well during video calls.
The affordable Android tablet runs Android 12 operating system topped with the company’s own layer of MIUI 13. The tablet offers a split screen feature which allows you to run two screens side by side. Along with this, the device also offers an option of floating windows which allows you to focus on the content while you research about it in floating windows.
