Relaince Jio Feature Phone ‘JioPhone’ with 4G VoLTE Launched for Free- Features, Availablilty and Plans
On Friday, Mr. Mukesh Ambani – Chairman Reliance Industries Limited has unveiled the latest feature phone called ‘JioPhone’ for the Indian consumers. The JioPhone comes with 4G VoLTE support and offers several smart features. The handset introduced as “India ka Smartphone” and launched at an “effective price” of Rs. 0. However, customers have to pay Rs 1,500 has a security deposit, which will be 100 percent refundable after three years.
“Today, I am delighted to announce that JioPhone will be available to all Indians for an effective price of – Rs 0,” said Mukesh Ambani amid thunderous applause from the shareholders. “A JioPhone user can use the JioPhone for 36 months, and can get a full refund of the security deposit of Rs 1,500 by returning the used JioPhone. Net-net, you pay nothing for the JioPhone,” he added.
The phone will be available from August 15 – for testing, in beta. And pre-booking will be open from August 24 from MyJio app and physical retail stores. Users who pre-book will be able to buy the phone from September, on a first come first serve basis. Mr. Mukesh Ambani, Chairman Reliance Industries Limited, said 5 million JioPhones will be made available every week.
The company will provide free voice calls, unlimited data (high-speed data FUP is 500MB per day) and Jio apps for Rs 153 per month. Further, there two sachets, one with Rs 24 for two days and Rs 54 plan for a week.The device will also come with TV-Cable that will allow users to connect their JioPhone with TV including the older CRT TVs to watch live TV. The company has priced the TV pack for Rs 309 per month.Talking about specifications, the device comes with an alphanumeric keypad, microphone speaker, 4-way navigation and a compact design. The JioPhone sports a 2.4″ QVGA display dual SIM functionality it also comes with a MicroSD card support. Other features includes FM radio, torch light, ringtones, phone contact, call history and more.
The JioPhone also got the SOS feature which can be enabled by long pressing 5 on the keypad.Once SOS is activated, it sends the location and emergency alert to pre-selected contacts and calls the 112 emergency number.
The JioPhone also comes with a voice assistant, which makes it easier to interact with the feature phone. Through the voice assistant, one can make calls, browse the internet and listen to music and more. It also supports the Hindi language for giving the voice command. The device also supports the 22 Indian regional languages.
The phone comes with a number of pre-loaded apps and browser installed on the phone including Jio apps, JioPhone browser, Facebook, and also PM Modi’s Mann Ki Baat broadcast. There is also NFC support for making virtual payments but it will be enabled later this year via automatic software update. This will also support UPI payments, and debit and credit card payments.
