Resident Evil 4 Remake released the Mercenaries DLC for free on April 7. Fans of the Resident Evil series must already be familiar with the Mercenaries mini-games from Resident 4 and 5. Capcom brings back the classic mini-game to Resident Evil 4 Remake with the latest DLC, but with a twist. It has introduced microtransactions to the DLC the same day it launched. Here’s everything you need to know about these developments.

Mercenaries DLC now out

The Mercenaries is the wave-based assault mode from the Resident Evil games, featuring time-limited challenges, where you have to defeat 150 enemies. With every kill, you’ll get bonus time, as enemies keep spawning throughout the map. However, at the start of the game in this mode, only one of the seven characters is playable, and you keep unlocking the others as and when you earn points. Naturally, there are weapons and gear for you to upgrade as well, unlocking gameplay unique to each character, and here’s where Capcom introduces its new microtransactions.

Microtransactions in Resident Evil 4

“Tickets” have been designed to grant your weapons special, exclusive upgrades. Once you redeem the ticket, you can use it to upgrade the weapon it corresponds to “free of charge.” Once bought, each Ticket can be redeemed from the Merchant’s shop, to be added to your Treasures menu. Additionally, the usage of these upgrade tickets has no prerequisites like levelling up the weapon to its max first.

An individual upgrade ticket costs $2.99. These are also available in bundles of threes and fives for $6.99 and $9.99 respectively. They can also be bought with the in-game currency, Spinels. Players can earn Spinels in great bulk with the completion of various Requests.

Capcom has also launched a new patch for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version of the Resident Evil 4 Remake. It fixes a certain “blurriness” of environmental details prevalent in the PS5 version of the game. It also addressed the controller deadzone that players faced on Xbox Series consoles. The graphics too have been improved for consoles in the game.
