Robbie Williams smashes past Elvis and John Lennon UK chart records – The Beatles are next | Music | Entertainment

Elvis Presley and The Beatles are the two most successful music acts of all time in the history of the world. Robbie Williams isn’t anywhere as well known as those five men in the USA and across the world, but in the UK he’s real competition for their chart records.

According to the Official Albums Chart, this week Robbie has now surpassed Elvis’ 13 UK No 1 albums with his 14th, XXV. That leaves only The Beatles ahead of the Take That star in Britain with their 15 album strong record.

On the incredible achievement, the 48-year-old singer said: “Thank you to everyone who’s supported the album: everyone who’s bought it, streamed it, downloaded it and reviewed it. I’m so pleased that it’s gone to Number 1, and whilst it feels strange to be receiving an award during these sombre times, I wanted to thank you all for your support and dedicate this to the fans, who I never take for granted. I really appreciate it, thank you so much.”

Robbie’s XXV album beat Ozzy Osbourne’s Patient Number 9 to No 1, while Harry Styles’ Harry’s House is at No 3.

All their albums are Columbia Records, so no doubt the label will be very happy with the result.

The Take That star could well beat The Beatles’ UK album chart record in the coming years, but Elvis also might reclaim second place.

The King may have died 45 years ago, but his posthumous record with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra helped add to his total.

In all, Robbie has 19 UK No 1 albums thanks to five with Take That, surpassing John Lennon’s 18. Only ahead as a record-holding individual is Sir Paul McCartney with 23 No 1 records thanks to his solo albums and work with The Beatles and Wings.

XXV celebrates 25 years of Robbie as a solo artist and includes his No 1 hit singles and fan favourites newly orchestrated and re-recorded with the Metropole Orkest in The Netherlands.
