Sir Rod Stewart, 78, shocked fans on Saturday when he cancelled his Geelong show at the Mt. Duneed Estate due to ill health. In a new update, the Maggie May hitmaker explained that he had been suffering from strep throat, preventing him from singing.

He told his 1.2 million Instagram followers on Monday that his next show in Adelaide “will be going ahead” tomorrow.

The rocker will take to the stage alongside Cyndi Lauper, 69, and Jon Stevens, 61.

He said: “My dear friends in Adelaide, just to guarantee that the show will be going ahead.

“I had a slight setback here in Melbourne, I had to miss a show because I had strep throat.

A spokesperson for Live Nation and Roundhouse Entertainment said the unfortunate ticket holders would receive an update this week “regarding the concert arrangements”.

Thousands took to Rod’s Instagram page to comment, with many sharing their disappointment.

Pete wrote: “It’s very unfortunate. First cancellation due to Covid, second cancellation two years later due to illness. Now another year passes and another cancellation.

“I was really excited to see him again and drove [five and a half] hours from NE Victoria. I think I will give up and listen to him on Spotify.

Rod will return to the UK in June and take to the stage in cities including Plymouth, Northampton and Durham.

It comes as Rod’s wife Penny Lancaster, 52, was celebrating Mother’s Day with her sons.

Rod and Penny share two boys: Alastair, 17, and Aiden, 12.

The legendary singer also has six other children from previous partners. They are: Sarah, 59, Kimberly, 43, Ruby, 35, Renee, 30, Sean, 42 and Liam, 28.
