Roger Federer reveals true feelings after watching Rafael Nadal’s Australian Open win | Tennis | Sport
Federer also revealed that he had spoken to Nadal about his injury woes, and was even happier for the world No 5 after hearing what he went through during his time away from the tour.
“He has told me for many months now that he wasn’t feeling so well with his body and now he’s all of a sudden holding up the Australian Open trophy.
“And dreams come true, and I think that was a great example with Rafa. He is a great role model. I think tennis writes incredible stories.”
Federer accomplished a similar feat to Nadal back in 2017, returning at the Australian Open after a six-month injury layoff that saw him end his season after a semi-final loss to Milos Raonic at Wimbledon.
Aged 35 at the time, produced a stunning run to the final against Nadal and beat his long-time rival in five sets to lift the trophy and what was then a record 18th Major title.
