Royal Family buy ‘joke’ Christmas gifts at ‘fabulous’ store to have ‘really good giggle’

It is believed the royals enjoy giving each other funny presents rather than splurging on expensive items. They exchange them on Christmas Eve following the family’s German heritage. Kate, Princess of Wales gifted Queen Elizabeth homemade chutney one year.

Kate wanted the late Queen to try the recipe from her own grandmother when she first joined the Royal Family.

The then Duchess of Cambridge also gifted Prince Harry with a “Grow Your Own Girlfriend” kit when he used to spend Christmas with the family, and before he met Meghan.

Other silly gifts include a toilet seat Princess Anne gave her brother, the then Prince Charles.

Royal and fashion expert Miranda Holder commented on the royal traditions and shared how to do Christmas shopping in royal style.

She suggested: “Have you ever wondered how the Royal Family like to do their Christmas shopping, or where the King buys his Christmas jumpers?! The royals love Christmas just as much as the rest of us!

“They love nothing better than having a really good giggle with the gifts they bought each other. But where do they exactly buy their Christmas presents from?

“It turns out they love a department store, and they get a hamper every year from Fortnum and Mason with all the Christmas food.”

The London-based department store Fortnum and Mason has served a total of 12 monarchs for over 300 years.

The retailer now holds two royal warrants, one from Queen Elizabeth and the other given by Charles, the then Prince of Wales.

As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations a few years ago, Kate, Camilla and Queen Elizabeth visited the shop, which specialises in tea.

While walking around the store, Kate reportedly mentioned that she liked tea, but said that it was her brother, James Middleton, who couldn’t live without it.

Mike Tindall recently talked about the first time he went to Sandringham with the Royal Family for Christmas Day.

“I didn’t drink actually, this is the other one, the family lunch there must be about 70 of us there. There are seven tables and the kiddies have their own little one in a different room. I was on Prince Charles’ table. It was lovely, really good,” he explained during JOE UK’s House of Rugby podcast.

When asked if royals take part in Secret Santa he said: “Not on that day, no.”
