Sam Walker signs Sydney Roosters contract extension

The Roosters have fended off challenges from NRL rivals to lock down prodigious young playmaker Sam Walker for a further two years.

The Bondi club announced the contract extension on Tuesday, which ties the 20-year-old to the Tricolours until the end of season 2025, when he will still only be 23.

Walker was the 2021 Dally M Rookie of the Year, and in 2022 advanced his career by being named in Queensland’s Origin squad for game three, then being selected in the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII team.

In May, legendary halfback Andrew Johns named Walker as one of the five best young players in the NRL.

“The Roosters have been awesome for me and I’m grateful every day to be part of this great club,” Walker said upon re-signing.

“I love the Roosters and the people in it so I’m stoked to extend my time here.”

The extension means rival clubs are not permitted to table Walker any offers, which they could have done previously given he was off-contract in less than 12 months.

Walker is the son of former Broncos playmaker Ben, and the nephew of Chris and Shane Walker.
