Samsung Galaxy S7 Contains Security Flaw to Meltdown Hack

Samsung accepted vulnerabilities of Samsung Galaxy S7 to Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities, security was compromised around January this year but the company only came with the information a month ago after risking the security of data and password of millions of users across the globe.

The two vulnerabilities identified as Spectre and Meltdown giving access to passwords and keys which remain unreachable but make them visible by the CPU  for a brief time and computer chips are weak to probing during a function called speculative execution and which open the doors as during this process the chip works cautiously to provide data proactively becoming more accessible to outside sources.

The researchers from Austria’s Graz Technical University have figured out a way to exploit the Meltdown vulnerability to attack Samsung-made Galaxy S7 smartphones.

“Samsung takes security very seriously and our products and services are designed with security as a priority,” the company said in a statement and responding to the findings of the researchers, company said that it has rolled out security patches to protect Galaxy S7 handsets from Meltdown in January followed by another security patch in July.

The risk is caused due to hardware design make the existence of vulnerability as old as twenty years and in millions of chips.

An estimated figure of users of S7 is 30 million. Researcher Michael Schwarz told Reuters “There are potentially even more phones affected that we don’t know about yet. There are potentially hundreds of millions of phones out there that are affected by Meltdown and may not be patched because the vendors themselves do not know”.
