samsung: Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 may come with temperature sensor

0

Samsung’s next generation of the smartwatch series – likely to be called Galaxy Watch 5 has been doing rounds of rumour mills for some time now. The company is expected to launch two models, Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, getting rid of the ‘Classic’ model this time. Reports suggest that the ‘Pro’ model will ditch the rotating bezel. And now the latest speculation claims that the Galaxy Watch 5 may come with a temperature sensor.
In a screenshot from the Samsung Health app beta version, shared on Reddit, there can be seen a toggle for “Skin temperature during sleep” for the Galaxy Watch 5, suggesting that the upcoming smartwatch from Samsung might finally come equipped with a temperature sensor after all the reports of Samsung facing issues implementing it. As per the description of the feature, it would be used to forecast sleep cycles more accurately. We are not sure if the temperature sensor would have any other functionalities.
According to tweets made by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo last month, Samsung is not ready with the temperature sensor algorithm, which is why we won’t get a temperature sensor on the Galaxy Watch 5 series. It was even reported that the Apple Watch Series 6 was supposed to get the temperature sensor, but even the Cupertino giant was facing the same difficulties; thus, it dropped the feature. However, it is being said that the feature could debut with the Series 8 if the algorithm issue is sorted before the Watch goes into mass production.
It is not the first time that the Samsung smartwatches appeared months before their unveiling on the Health app. Last year, the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic also appeared in the beta version of the Health app a month before their launch.
The Galaxy Watch 5 is expected to come in two dial sizes – 40mm and 42mm. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is said to be made available in a single dial size. Further, the ‘Pro’ model might come with a titanium body and sapphire glass.
