The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 may feature the 108MP camera available on the company’s latest flagship device — Galaxy S22 Ultra. According to PhoneArena’s report, this camera upgrade may turn out to be a major one compared to its predecessor Galaxy Z Fold 3’s triple rear camera unit which comprises — a 12MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor and another 12MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom.
The report also suggests that the upcoming foldable phone from the South Korean tech giant could also be one of the best camera phones of 2022 as the 108MP camera offered on the Galaxy S22 Ultra is capable of producing highly detailed, well-balanced pictures with impressive low-light performance. This new sensor is capable of recording 8K videos, so one can also expect to find support for 8K video recording in the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 4 smartphone.
Previously, another report implied that Samsung’s upcoming foldable will also get the same 10MP 3x telephoto sensor that is available on the Galaxy S22 series. The third sensor that might be used on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 smartphone is likely to be the 12MP ultra-wide unit. However, it is not clear whether the upcoming device will use the ultra-wide lens available on Galaxy S22 Ultra or the one present in Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is also expected to have an improved under-display camera compared to its predecessor. Even the cover display of the upcoming foldable handset is also likely to have an under-panel camera. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 also offered two front cameras that included a — 4MP under-display sensor placed within the main display and a bigger 10MP selfie shooter which is embedded in the punch-hole cut-out of the outer display.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4: Other expected changes
The upcoming foldable from Samsung is likely to use a single-hinge design which might make the device thinner than its predecessor and even include a slot for the S Pen stylus. Galaxy Z Fold 4 is also likely to hold on to a physical fingerprint reader and may come powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus processor. This is an improved version of Qualcomm’s current flagship chipset that will also be manufactured using the 4nm process.
However, the upcoming handset is likely to retain its predecessor’s 4400mAh battery and might be a little less expensive than the Z Fold 3 which starts at Rs 1,49,999. Samsung is expected to announce the foldable within Q3 2022 and it is likely to face competition from other devices like the Oppo Find N, Vivo X Fold and the Google Pixel Notepad which may release in Q4 this year.
The first companies to launch foldable phones were Samsung and Huawei. Samsung now dominates the market as Huawei went out of the picture due to US sanctions.
