Samsung has started rolling out the June 2022 update for some selective Galaxy devices. The South Korean tech giant has been very prompt in offering updates for its Galaxy series handsets since the turn of 2022. According to 9to5Google, the company has now released the June 2022 update for a few Galaxy devices to become the first OEM to provide Galaxy owners with the very latest security patch.
What’s new in Samsung’s June 2022 security update
Samsung has not shared the release notes yet, however, it is important to note that the previous May 2022 security patch resolved the widely publicised “Dirty Pipe” exploit for many devices. This vulnerability can make the devices remotely accessible and allow attackers to take full control of them.
This issue mainly affected Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphones. Moreover, the exploit could directly affect devices and was limited only to Galaxy S22 series handsets that shipped with Android 12 and with kernel version 5.8 or higher.
Some Galaxy smartphones are still awaiting the One UI 4.1 update which is a mid-cycle Android 12 build that includes several functions and features that were initially launched as Galaxy S22 series smartphone exclusives. Therefore, some Samsung Galaxy phones are also expected to receive the June 2022 security update along with the One UI 4.1 update, as the rollout has not yet been completed.

Samsung released the S22 series earlier this year, yet the first smartphone to get updated with the June patch was the previous series. European owners have reported the arrival of the company’s June 2022 security update as an OTA update on the Galaxy S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra models. The Exynos 2100-powered variants of these devices are expected to receive the update over the coming weeks. However, the report doesn’t mention a timeline for when the Qualcomm models will get updated.
However, the first Samsung device to get the June security patch as an OTA update was not a smartphone, rather it was a tablet. The Galaxy Tab S7+ 5G started receiving the update in several parts of Europe including — Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, the UK and others.
Users who are not willing to wait for the OTA notification to arrive on their devices can also manually attempt to pull this update for their smartphones. To do this, users will have to go to the Settings menu, then they have to open Software update and select Download and install.
