NEW DELHI: The country’s largest public bank State Bank of India (SBI) has warned its customers against taking calls from two numbers that it says are dangerous. The numbers are +91-8294710946 & +91-7362951973. These numbers are said to be involved in phishing scams. SBI has asked customers not to click on any links asking for KYC updates.
The numbers were initially flagged as dangerous by CID Assam. In a tweet, CID Assam said, “SBI Customers are getting calls from two nos. -+91-8294710946 & +91-7362951973 asking them to click on a phishing link for KYC update. Requesting all SBI customers not to click on any such phishing/suspicious link.”

SBI’s Twitter account retweeted the Tweet, further reiterating the warning, “Do not engage with these numbers, & don’t click on #phishing links for KYC updates as they aren’t associated with SBI.”
This is not the first time that SBI has warned against KYC scam. The bank has warned users about KYC-related frauds on a number of previous occasions as well. The bank has warned users not to click on links asking to update their KYC details on any SMS, email or WhatsApp. It repeatedly tells users to report such numbers for fraud on governments’ cybercrime portal cybercrime.gov.in or call on helpline number 1930. The bank asks customers to immediately report any suspicious link or call they receive on these official channels.
In 2021, SBI launched OTP-based cash withdrawal system for transactions at its ATMs. The customers need to share OTP received on their registered mobile number to withdraw money from the ATM. This OTP or four-digit authenticates the user for a single transaction. This the bank says protects SBI card holders from unauthorised ATM cash withdrawals. SBI terms this as vaccination against fraudsters.
