Football in the United Kingdom has paid its respect to the late Queen, who died after a 70-year reign aged 96. Minute’s silences were generally well observed during last weekend’s round of fixtures ahead of the state funeral.
Scotland were facing Ukraine in League B Group 1 of the Nations League. It was a repeat of the World Cup qualifier which saw Ukraine defeat the Scots to set up a showpiece final against Wales, which the latter won.
Boss Steve Clarke had urged for a ‘respectful moment’ ahead of the game. He said: “I think for me, I will do my usual and show the respect that should be shown on such an occasion.
“For other people? I don’t think it’s for me to judge, but hopefully it goes off, and it is a respectful moment before the game. I am always very respectful on these occasions and give the respect that’s deserved.”
