Secret Star Wars Movie Loses Screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson

Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof is reportedly no longer involved with the unannounced Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Star Wars movie.

Reported by Deadline, both Lindelof and co-writer Justin Britt-Gibson have left the project, but Obaid-Chinoy is still set to direct the film. Deadline’s sources also say more details about the project are set to be revealed at next month’s Star Wars Celebration, and it could still be one of the next Star Wars movies to hit theaters. No specifics on the writer departures were shared.

We first heard of this movie last October, when Lindelof and Britt-Gibson were said to be writing a standalone Star Wars film that could lead to additional movies if it turned out to be a success. Reports said the movie could take place after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, which is currently the end of the canon timeline across movies and TV shows.

There hasn’t been a Star Wars movie since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, which proved to be a divisive end to The Skywalker Saga. The franchise has instead been focusing on Disney+ series, including The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Andor, and more.

The movie side of Disney’s Star Wars plans are very unclear, with question marks surrounding a number of Star Wars projects. Kevin Feige’s Star Wars movie was canceled, Rian Johnson’s trilogy may or may not still be happening, Rogue Squadron was removed from Disney’s release calendar, and Taika Waititi’s project appears to be up in the air. We’ll have to wait and see if any of these questions are answered at London’s Star Wars Celebration in April.
