Shane van Gisbergen explodes after brake lockup

Shane van Gisbergen has blown up on team radio after twice making an error when on target to set the quickest lap during practice for the Bathurst 1000.

Van Gisbergen is one of several cars up and down pitlane which appear to be fighting brake locking issues ahead of the Great Race.

The first instance came as he applied the brakes into Murrays Corner – the last on the 6.2km track – before the second saw him skate through the grass at The Chase.

“Off he goes,” said Neil Crompton in commentary.

“So, van Gisbergen, cranky. Very cranky. Mark (Skaife) and I were flinching in the commentary box throughout that entire lap. That was very intense.”

Van Gisbergen himself let rip on the radio.

“For f— sake, I’m sick of this thing, man. Why does it keep locking the fronts?”

Many drivers up and down pit lane have been suffering from brake locking. Some are attributing it to a fine layer of epoxy applied to the track surface earlier this week.
