Sidhu Moosewala’s tragic death was a great shock to the Punjabi music industry, his fans and family alike. The site where the artist was cremated has now become a pilgrimage site, as fans from far flung villages are alighting in droves to pay their respects.
The singer and politician’s last rites took place recently, and it was attended by his close friends, family and hundreds of fans. This comes after Moosewala was brutally shot down at Punjab’s Mansa district.The loss was mourned heavily as he was supremely talented at the prime age of 28. He was also revered among his huge fan base who were shocked at the sudden news.
To keep the singer’s memories alive, his family cremated him in their fields instead of the crematory. The site has now turned into a memorial as fans come in flocks to pay their respect. Some bow down their heads to seek blessings, some offer flowers where the singer’s photographs are kept. Some fans take selfies with a photograph of Moosewala. The picture bears the inscription, ‘Soorme marde nahi amar ho jaande ne’ which translates to Warriors never die, they become immortal.
