Simon Calder joined Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary on This Morning to share his best “secret holiday hacks”. Although flight prices have surged this year, Simon said there’s an “all time bargain destination” where prices are back to the 1990s.

Simon said: “The all time bargain destination this summer is going to be the new destination of North Macedonia, flying out of Manchester to Lake Ohrid which is lovely.

“That’s £386 per person. It’s fantastic. I’ve been there. It’s absolutely gorgeous, lakes, mountains.

“Friendly people, great 1990s prices for pretty much everything. Get a cheap deal going there.”

Lake Ohrid is in North Macedonia on the country’s border with Albania and is a great bargain destination for this summer.

One of Europe’s deepest and oldest lakes, the UNESCO World Heritage site is a stunningly beautiful holiday destination.

Tourists can wander Ohrid’s Old Town and enjoy local delicacies for cheap prices in one of its attractive cafes.

Britons could relax on a sunbed by the lake’s shore or head out on a water adventure with a paddleboard or kayak.

Ohrid is also home to historic monastery, St Naum, which can be reached with a one and a half hour boat ride.

Simon also shared his best “secret holiday hack” to get the cheapest price with plenty of security in the event of an incident.

He said: “If you book a proper package holiday through an actual human travel agent, then first of all you’ve got somebody to check your passports.

“And if anything goes wrong, you’ve got a package holiday, then the company has to look after you.

“If things get messed up and you booked your accommodation separately and car rental separately, then nobody’s going to help but the package companies have to look after you.”

Simon advised British tourists to travel with just hand luggage and make sure it’s prepared before joining the security line.

Tourists should make sure they can easily remove any electronic devices, such as laptops, from their bags.

Britons will also need to have their liquids in a clear plastic bag with each item no more than 100ml.

Clear plastic bags can be picked up at airport security but tourists could also use their own reusable clear bag.
