Apple has decided to pull the plug on Fleetsmith, its mobile device management (MDM) solution, later this year. The tech giant had acquired Fleetsmith in 2020. Fleetsmith is meant for administrators who have to manage the fleets of Apple devices and it allows the users to “automate device setup, intelligence, patching and security for your devices”, as per Apple. In short, with Fleetsmith, users can wirelessly configure Apple devices in a secure manner while automatically managing various device settings, apps and security preferences.
The tech giant made the announcement through a support document and said that it is discontinuing new signups for Fleetsmith from April 21, 2022. Those already using Fleetsmith can avail of the services of the MDM solution till October 21, 2022.
After October 21, 2022, the existing customers won’t be able to log in to the MDM solution. The devices also will not get configuration profiles from the Fleetsmith server.
Apple allowed an unlimited free trial of the Fleetsmith software solution for up to 10 devices, with no fixed minimum number of devices. It offered monthly and annual subscriptions to the service, with $10/device/month to be paid on a monthly basis and $8.25 /device/month for the annual plan.
