Sony has confirmed that the Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support feature will be rolled out for PlayStation 5 players worldwide within this week. The Japanese tech giant has announced through the PlayStation blog. The company claims that VRR will dynamically sync the refresh rate of the display to the PS5 console’s graphical output. This new feature will be available only on HDMI 2.1 VRR-compatible TVs and PC monitors.
Sony claims that this new feature will enhance the visual performance of the PS5 games by eliminating glitches like — frame pacing issues and screen tearing. The company also mentioned that the gameplay in several PS5 titles will offer better experiences ‘as scenes will render seamlessly, graphics will look crisper, and input lag is reduced.’
Games that are already available on PS5 will be fully optimised for VRR through game patches and the upcoming games will support the VRR feature starting from their launch. Sony has even mentioned the names of the titles that will receive game patches enabling VRR support on their PS5 versions. Some of the famous titles will include — Call of Duty: Vanguard, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Deathloop, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, DIRT 5, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege and others. However, these are the names of a few games that will receive VRR support.
Users need to have a steady internet connection to receive the update. Once the update is downloaded, VRR will automatically be enabled for supported games. Nevertheless, users can also turn off this feature from the “Screen and Video” in system settings.
Moreover, users can also choose to apply VRR to PS5 games that don’t support it and this feature may even improve video quality for some games. If it doesn’t you can always turn off the feature. It is important to note that results may vary depending on the display you’re using, the title you’re playing and the visual mode selected for a particular game (if it supports multiple modes).
