Latrell Mitchell’s heroics in his 150th NRL match have lifted the South Sydney Rabbitohs to a comprehensive 50-16 win over the Canterbury Bulldogs at Accor Stadium.

Mitchell scored his first hat-trick for Souths, made six conversions and kicked a penalty goal to account for 26 of the team’s points – just three shy of the club’s all-time scoring record.

He also finished with a game-high 188 run metres.

Speaking to Nine’s Sonny Bill Williams post-match, Mitchell reflected on the “special” match.

“I’m proud of the boys, I’m proud of the effort and I hope I made my family proud,” he said.

In the first half, centre Izaac Tu’itupou Thompson made a break down the right side, and got the pass away to Mitchell before he was taken into touch.

While there was some question over the pass – having looked like it might have gone forward – the try was eventually awarded.

Moments later, Cody Walker made a similar break, but once again it was Mitchell waiting on his inside to receive the pass and score – extending the Rabbitohs’ lead at half time.

NRL Highlights: Bulldogs v Rabbitohs – Round 6

With Bulldogs second-rower Jacob Preston sent to the bin for a hip drop tackle and their left edge exposed with winger Josh Addo-Carr subbed out of the match with a leg injury, the Rabbitohs soon piled on the pain.

Mitchell scored again before setting up teammate Campbell Graham as he chalked up his own hat-trick in record time.

The Rabbitohs are now 3-3 this season.
