Spanish Grand Prix LIVE: Leclerc on pole ahead of Max Verstappen with Lewis Hamilton sixth | F1 | Sport
Hello and welcome to Express Sport‘s live coverage of today’s Spanish Grand Prix, with Charles Leclerc set to lead Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz off the line when the action gets underway at 2pm.
The Ferrari driver, who currently sits atop Drivers’ Championship standings by a margin of 19 points, produced a stunning lap at the end of yesterday’s qualifying session to pip his Dutch rival to pole position.
Red Bull have performed better over an entire race distance over the course of the campaign to date, though, which suggests that Verstappen may have the edge when the five red lights go out at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Mercedes could also be in the hunt for a podium finish at the very least this afternoon, with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton having been quicker in practice and qualifying than they have been all season due to the exciting new upgrades introduced by the Silver Arrows at the start of the weekend.
Who will come out on top at the end of this afternoon’s 66-lap race in Spain? We’re just an hour away from lights out and will be on hand to keep you updated throughout the day’s running.
