As well as this, every pensioner has also been entitled to a £300 cost of living payment to help pay for rising bills.

Last month, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt confirme this financial assistance will return next year but it will not be increased like the payment for those on means-tested benefits.

Helen Morrissey, a senior pensions and retirement analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, noted those approaching retirement age should expect further clarification from the Government on the state pension age in the months ahead.

Ms Morrisey explained: “There’s no definite date on this yet, but this report will be eagerly anticipated.
