Mumbai: A study by Samco Securities with Nielsen covering 2,000 participants across cities in India showed that 67% of stock market participants were unable to generate benchmark index returns.

According to the study, 65% of investors were not even aware of their exact stock market returns and 77% were not aware that they consistently need to beat the benchmark indices.

The study said only 23% investors were aware that they need to beat the benchmark indices; more than 50% had no idea how to outperform the benchmark indices and 63% investors don’t even target or plan to beat indices. Samco believes investors unable to manage portfolios actively, should outsource it to a professional fund manager, or invest in index ETFs.
