Strictly Come Dancing star Giovanni Pernice admitted on his latest show, Anton and Giovanni’s Adventures in Sicily, that his choice to focus on his career instead of finding “the one” had left him feeling “lonely” at times.

Meanwhile, during Wednesday’s launch party for the BBC Earth Experience – an immersive show featuring David Attenborough – his former dance partner Rose Ayling-Ellis made no secret of the fact that she still misses Giovanni, nodding with huge enthusiasm when she was quizzed about their sweet relationship in an interview with Hello! Magazine at the event.

She added that she would love to work with the Italian dancer again, although she’s unsure what the future holds.

“Expect more? I have no idea. Whatever happens will be!” the 28-year-old shrugged.

It comes after, during Giovanni’s new BBC show with Anton, Rose – who rose to victory with him on the 2021 series of Strictly – flew all the way to Italy to have an emotional reunion with him for a recent cameo.

On arrival, she stretched her arms out to Giovanni for a hug, after being flown in on a helicopter in the ultimate gesture of friendship.

Earlier in the series, Giovanni had been talking about the trade-off involved in having a hugely successful career, admitting that he had not yet found the one, and that his mother was feeling broody for a grandchild.

He had reportedly been dating fellow Strictly star Jowita Przystal, but Giovanni has since revealed that he is currently single.

However, he admitted his mum takes a huge interest in who he is dating each time he meets someone, and he’ll ask for her opinions.

“Bless her, she’s seen so many [women] passing by,” he chuckled on location in Sicily, during the show he shares with Strictly judge Anton du Beke.

“Initially, [my mum] is like: ‘Is she the one? You know, I want a baby before I pass away!’ [She says it] all the time, constantly, it’s funny.”

However he reassures that the time will come, explaining: “Of course I’ll have a family one day, you just have to find the right person first.

“It does get lonely sometimes… there’s a fine line, between: ‘I want to be in a relationship and be with somebody because you get lonely’.”

He added that he was “very focused” on his career for the time being, suggesting to Anton that he was the same as he had been at his age.

Anton himself became a father later in life, as he was already in his 50s by the time his wife Hannah gave birth to twins Henrietta and George.

The 56-year-old now has double trouble, with a pair of five-year-olds running around his home, but he’s said that he wouldn’t give the experience of fatherhood up for the world.

Giovanni, who is 32, potentially has decades to go before starting his family if he takes after Anton, although he has not divulged when he feels the right time will be.

He did tell Anton during their heart-to-heart in Sicily that he would be cooking for a family one day, and his co-star shot back: “Once you get a family, you will be doing it all the time.”
