Fate seemed to have weaved quite a story for India’s Got Talent winners, Divyansh and Manuraj! After all, few would have assumed that the duo that arrived at the auditions for their individual acts — only deciding to join hands at eleventh hour because they “sounded great together” — would go on and lift the coveted trophy.
“We hadn’t met before the audition round, but decided to [jam] together, and were happy to see how we were sounding. Divyansh has 12 years of experience behind him, and together, our collaborative work seemed to have added a new layer to our individual styles,” says flautist Manuraj. Skilled enough to have been able to win the title on their own accord, Manuraj says when brought together, they were a force to reckon with.
“We never struggle to create music because we had two different genres [to explore]. While we didn’t know each other before, it’s easy to understand another person via music. We were definitely challenged in understanding how to introduce variety, but our personal journeys contributed to the work that we were eventually able to deliver.” His long-in-the-making Indian classical album, he says, will now undergo iterations to include the new genres he has been introduced to.
Having consistently earned praise from the panellists of the Sony TV show, their win did not particularly come as a surprise to viewers. Beat-boxer Divyansh attributes their success to their tendency to focus on their craft, instead of attempt to outshine their co-contestants.
“There are a lot of new genres that we have learnt via our participation on the show, and have also created our own genre. We want to travel and put India on the global map. We have [shows] planned in India and abroad. While we are creating an album together, we are also working on our individual albums, and will feature one another in them. This [win] will open doors for all instrumentalists across the globe.”
A successful collaboration, he says, can only be facilitated if the involved artistes provide one another with opportunities to showcase their prowess. “As musicians, both of us are adjusting, and give way to one another while practicing. We resonate with each other.”
