Super Rugby Pacific news | The four Super Rugby players who could rival Brumbies flyer in a match race

0

Round four of Super Rugby was the busiest weekend in the history of the tournament for scoreboard attendants with a staggering 60 tries scored across the weekend.

Kids Round also served up some gold from the youngsters with a bunch of them giving us good across each of the broadcasts.

Let’s get into some of the good stuff from another bumper few days.

POKER FACE

As Dan McKellar did so well in his time in Canberra, coach Stephen Larkham is also finding game time for the next generation of kids with a Brumby on their chest.

McKellar worked Luke Reimer into a starting flanker and we saw that rise completed with his two tries on Saturday.

Larkham meanwhile, gave us a look at local Jack Wright and Charlie Cale, who both debuted.

Cale is an interesting find, he’s previously topped the John Dent Cup as a try scorer, grew up in Dubbo, went to school in Sydney… and shares the exact same name of the lead character in Stan’s hit series ‘Poker Face.’

The TV show is unreal, binged it in a couple days. The boys cap presso is also worth a watch below.

NEED FOR SPEED

Still in Canberra and a couple of bursts with ball in hand by Corey ‘The Tornado’ Toole had many asking is he the quickest bloke in Super Rugby?

There’s been a few Aussies who’ve been able to really motor in years gone by. Rod ‘Rocket’ Davies was awesome with Queensland. Lachie Turner was lightning with the Waratahs and Digby Ioane galloping to the line was always a sight.

Who now though could trouble Toole in a match race? Rieko Ioane at the Blues? Taniela Rakuro with the Drua? Toni Pulu at the Force? Monty Ioane at the Rebels maybe?

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

What about the time and distance taken for the Western Force to reach Rugby Park in Invercargill for their narrow loss to the Highlanders?

A quick google search says you’re looking at a minimum of 14 hours from Perth to that corner of New Zealand, with all sorts of other stops and transit issues to overcome.

The Waratahs could play a game in Dubai and be there quicker than what the Force went through last week.

When that’s factored in, it makes their performance even more commendable.

Up against a desperate and winless home side, the Force challenged them all the way and very nearly caused a huge upset.

At least they’ll be in the same time zone for this week’s game against the Blues.

FULL MATCH REPLAY

Morgan Turinui, Stephen Hoiles and I will often debate a game’s quality on Between Two Posts using Stan Sports rewatch options as a barometer.

A stinker will be given Rapid Recap acknowledgement and up we go to the top end where Full Match status is awarded.

We are very discerning when it comes to the No.1 nod and it gives me great pleasure to push the Blues v Crusaders epic right up there.

If two teams served this quality of match up in the opening weekend of the Rugby World Cup, we’d be happy.

The quality of attack, the pace of play, the immense physicality of the battle was just awesome.

The Sky Sports NZ crew gave it a ‘classic’ tag. Spot on. Get it into your eyes if you can.

KIDS CALLING

It was awesome to see so many teams fully embrace Kids Round across the weekend. Such a simple concept, but one implemented really well.

We had junior presenters, junior reporters, even junior analysts on our broadcast who mixed their insight with plenty of humour.

The weekend was set up with this gem of a teaser, another ‘Elkin Productions’ masterpiece starring the most talented presenter in the Turinui household, Kingsley.

SHINZO NO

A deep chasm has formed in the Stan Sport/Ch 9 Rugby team after a chosen few were helped to a tip for the eventual Golden Slipper winner Shinzo.

Instead of sharing their insights, they warehoused the tip, opting instead to send smart arse money and beer emojis post-race.

To make matters worse, the splinter group all backed the Chris Waller-trained runner months ago at the price of…wait for it…100/1. 🥺

See you on Monday night at 7pm for the next hit of Between two Posts with the crew.
