Hemu Dalvi, who coached several Mumbai first-class cricketers including Test men Balvinder Singh Sandhu and Paras Mhambrey at Jhunjhunwala College, passed away in Mumbai on Friday. He was 82.

Dalvi, who served Central Railways for a while, turned out as a swing bowler for Madhya Pradesh in four Ranji Trophy matches across 1958-59 and 1959-60. On the Mumbai club circuit, he played for Sunder CC. He was club secretary when Sunder CC won the ‘A’ division Kanga League in 1990. Soft-spoken Dalvi was highly instrumental in Sunder CC’s 1968 ‘B’ division triumph. A tireless volunteer of the Mumbai Cricket Association, Dalvi was a close friend of the late Bal Mahaddalkar, a group leader.
