North Melbourne player Tarryn Thomas has lashed out at a fan on social media following a lethargic performance during the Kangaroos’ 57-point loss to the Crows on Sunday.
But coach David Noble has since revealed there was more to the situation than just a poor showing by the talented youngster.
Thomas had just three disposals and one tackle as the Kangaroos cemented their position at the bottom of the AFL ladder at Blundstone Arena in Hobart.

He took to social media after the game to confront a fan who had commented on an earlier photo on his profile: “You managed 1 handball for the whole first half today, let’s see if we can change the future and aim for 2 in the second half!”.
“Still get paid 10x more than you ever will,” Thomas replied before later deleting the comment.
Speaking after the match, Noble explained the 22-year-old had been “struggling” after suffering a personal tragedy.
“Obviously I didn’t hear the half time stuff but Taz [Tarryn] has had a bereavement in his family this week and has really struggled,” he said.
“His nan passed away and so he’s struggled a bit and wanted to play for his nan and I’m sure he’s disappointed with the game he put forward.”
Noble said Thomas would not be flying home with the team on Sunday and would instead be “going back to support his family”.
He also acknowledged criticism from former Kangaroos great David King during Fox Footy’s coverage, saying there is always a “level you need to bring” on game day but explained dealing with the loss had had an impact.
Having followed Thomas closely during the game, King said he looked “completely disinterested” during the third quarter.
Thomas has struggled for consistency this season, only recently returning to the side after being dropped for not meeting training standards.
