Tata Motors, India’s top-selling electric car company, unveiled the concept of new electric SUV Curvv in India today. Last Sunday, the auto major had released teaser materials on the coming concept.

The company expects to launch vehicles based on the concept in two years from now, said Shailesh Chandra, managing director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.

SUVs based on the new concept will first be launched as electric models, which will be followed by petrol/diesel ones later.

The models will be built on new vehicle architecture adapted for EVs, the company stated.

According to reports, EVs based on the new architecture will have larger batteries and a certified range of 400 – 500 kms. The new vehicles will also be capable of faster and more efficient charging, the company said.

Here are some of the features of the concept, based on what the company has revealed:

  • The exterior design features a raised ride height, tough cladding and dynamic proportions.
  • The front and rear fenders have large offsets.
  • It has a slim upper DRL and a triangular headlamp design
  • The front lower bumper has a grooved pattern
  • The Day Light Opening has a typical SUV coupe-like graphic.
  • The wheels have aero blade inserts to close up the open area and allow better airflow across the surfaces.
  • The interior is spacious and uncluttered
  • It has a large panoramic glass roof that integrates the rear spoiler with the roofline.

“With an inherently expressive design, the concept CURVV will appeal to new age progressive customers who are ahead of the curve,” the company said.

Tata Motors has over 90% of India’s electric car market. It sold 19,000 EVs in the fiscal year ended March 31, up from 4,200 units previous year.
