Australian tennis star Alex de Minaur says he’s not involved in any way in a fake vaccination certificate scandal that’s exploded in Spain.

Spanish police have arrested 11 people over the scandal, where fake vaccination passports were being sold to the unvaccinated.

More than 600 passports were reportedly sold to a number of well known identities in Spain, where de Minaur resides.

A list published in Spanish media names de Minaur as an alleged client of the group, which is reportedly based in France.

The 23-year-old, who missed last year’s Tokyo Olympics after contracting COVID-19, posted a statement to social media to set the record straight.

“I received my first dose of the vaccine in London last summer, and the second one at the Hospital La Paz in Madrid,” De Minaur wrote.

“News came out today that the hospital is under investigation for providing falsified COVID certificates to some of its patients,” he continued.

“I want to make it 100 per cent clear that I received my second shot, that I have a completely valid, accurate and true vaccination record.

“I am not ‘under investigation’ in any way as is being suggested and my name is connected to this story simply because I was a patient at the hospital (as many thousands of others were).”

De Minaur made the fourth round at last month’s Australian Open, a tournament where all players were required to be fully vaccinated, or needed a valid exemption.
