Pablo Carreno Busta has hit one of the most extraordinary winners ever seen at Melbourne Park during a lengthy rally with his second-round opponent, Tallon Griekspoor.

The incredible moment occurred when Griekspoor framed an attempted overhead during a rally, with the ball spinning back across the net to his own side of the court after bouncing on Carreno Busta’s side.

Carreno Busta then ran around the side of the net, squeezing by the umpire’s chair, to execute the extraordinary shot that he hit back towards the net to make it impossible for Griekspoor to return.

“Oh my goodness. Totally legal,” John Fitzgerald said in commentary.

“And great anticipation there from Carreno Busta … playbook right here for this year’s Australian Open. This smash comes off the tip of the racquet, it spins, just goes over the net and is going back over the other side of the net. Carreno Busta senses it … oh, that’s sensational.

“Completely legal as long as he doesn’t touch the net, and he doesn’t.”
