The beautiful moment UK stadium sings Happy Birthday to Andrea Bocelli | Music | Entertainment
The Italian popera superstar is currently in the middle of a massive world tour. He’s in Birmingham tonight and Sheffield tomorrow before reaching London next weekend. And while he has been warbling his way around the country, the crowd in Belfast this week returned the favour in rousing fashion to help celebrate his birthday in style. During the concert in Northern Ireland last week, one gentleman shouted out “Happy Birthday Andrea” in a break between songs.
The international superstar grinned and bantered with the crowd and then the whole stadium spontaneously joined in with a roof-raising rendition of Happy Birthday while Andrea took a well-deserved break from his own singing for a minute or two.
The concert contained all the usual crowd-pleasers from Nessun Dorma and You’ll Never Walk Alone to Time To Say Goodbye (with soprano Zuzana Markova). But there was also another surprise – on top of the birthday singalong.
It may still only be September, but Andrea delivered an early seasonal treat with a richly smooth version of Happy Christmas (War Is Over.)
The iconic John Lennon song may be traditionally heard everywhere in a couple of months, but it is also included on Andrea’s upcoming album A Family Christmas, release at the end of October. The album will feature his daughter Virginia making her recording debut a 10 years old. She sings on Over The Rainbow and Away In A manger, as well as soloing on When Christmas Comes to Town.
Virginia stunned the world last Christmas when she sang Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah with her father on a global live stream.
She has also performed the song at some of the current world tour dates, but in Belfast, the honour was taken by her big brother Matteo.
As well as pursuing his own solo music career, the 24-year-old will join his father and sister on the upcoming album. But this week, the celebrations we all about Andrea’s birthday, with Matteo also posting a message on his Instagram account.
