The iPhone 13 lacks one vital feature but that could change this year

The iPhone 13 is Apple’s latest and greatest flagship with this device featuring the blisteringly quick A15 Bionic processor, updated dual-lens rear camera and a bigger battery to help owners get longer usage without needing to go near a plug.

This receently-released call maker also gets a tougher design, thanks to Ceramic Shield glass, that allows it to survive the odd drop and there’s full access to the latest 5G data speeds that make downloads faster than your home broadband.

That all sounds hugely enticing but there was one big upgrade that this device didn’t receive when Apple launched it at its keynote last September.

Almost all premium Android smartphones, from the likes of Samsung, Xiaomi and Google, now feature speedy 120Hz refresh rate screens which offer silky smooth and stutter-free scrolling.

Sadly, this technology didn’t appear on the iPhone 13 with only the more expensive iPhone 13 Pro models receiving this must-have display boost. It was something we criticised Apple for in our iPhone 13 review but it appears that things could be about to change.

A new whisper from top analyst Jeff Pu and published by MacRumors is suggesting that all iPhone 14 models will get a ProMotion 120Hz screen.

Having put the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro devices to the test, Express.co.uk can confirm that the improved screen makes a big difference with things feeling much more fluid on the Pro models.

Apple’s ProMotion technology also automatically switches things to lower rate when 120Hz isn’t needed which help reduce battery drain.

It will be great to see Apple bringing this boost to its more affordable flagship later this year and let’s hope the rumour is true.

That iPhone 14 news isn’t the only rumour currently doing the rounds about upcoming devices.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who has a track record of getting all things Apple correct, the new iPhone SE 3 could bring the latest 5G data speeds to this cut-priced device which would allow owners to access the web at speeds in excess of 300Mbps when away from their fixed-line broadband.

It’s also thought that the refresh will bring a faster processor to this phone and there could be a boost to the front and rear cameras for better photography.

Although not confirmed, it’s thought this wallet-friendly device could arrive this spring.
