The Last of Us HBO Series Will Feature Tendrils Instead of Spores; Modders Bring Bella Ramsey to the Game and More

It is less than a week till The Last of Us HBO Series arrives on January 15, 2022. Ahead of the release, quite a few details about the show have been revealed. We have already learned about one major change that will see Bill and Frank in the spotlight in the series. Now a new change has been revealed and many fans will not be too happy about it.

Recently, through an interview with Collider, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann explained how the Cordyceps infection will be dealt with in the series. In the game we knew that the zombies were infected by a mutated version of the Cordyceps virus, but we did not know how that came about.

Tendrils instead of Spores

The creators realised that since the pandemic stuck us, people have become more aware of viruses and how they work. Therefore they wanted to add as much science to the show as they could. That is why they have introduced a scene from the 60’s that shows that this version of the virus has been there for a long time and hasn’t sprouted out of no where.

Druckmann added stating that there have been certain additions to the show that separate it from a mainstream zombie show. They have added interesting features to the zombies such as echolocation to find their way around.

Now for the main change, the creators decided early on to remove spores from the show. This would mean that the characters will not have to wear gas masks anymore. They decided on going for Tendrils instead as it could become a network that was interconnected. Many fans aren’t too happy about it as the spores were iconic in the game, and we will not have any of the gas mask scenes in the series.

Modders turn Ellie into Bella in The Last of Us Part II

In other news, as spotted by Eurogamer, a modder that goes by the name Alejandro Bielsa, popularly known as Vontadeh has modified Ellie’s face to look like Bella Ramsey’s. He has said that the mod isn’t perfect as you can still see glimpses of Ellie when she displays emotion. But, the mod works best when the performance is more nuanced and the pose is neutral. The Last of Us Series Creators Speaks about Hunters

In an interview with IGN, Neil Druckmann has stated that there was a lot about the game that could only come to life in the show. One of them being Hunters, and fans will now learn more about their origins, why did they bring down the quarantine and who was their leader. This comes as exciting news to fans as many were interested to learn more about this faction in the game.

Lastly, through an interview with VGC, Neil Druckmann has told the players that announcing games to early caused ‘work-life balance issues’. This was mainly for Uncharted 4 that was announced in 2013 and released in 2016 and Last of Us Part 2, that was announced in 2016 and released in 2020 and went through two delays.

Therefore they understood that delaying the announcement could help them work around the schedule more and also be more conscious about how they approach production. At the moment, they have a Last of Us multiplayer title in the works, along with an undisclosed project.
