The Last of Us Part I PC Patch Released, Many Players Still Report Crashes and Other Issues

0

The Last of Us Part I launched on PC yesterday, but unlike most Sony PC ports thus far, this one has not been well-received by fans. As we reported yesterday, TLOU Part I has a “mostly negative” rating on Steam, with thousands of users complaining of exceptionally long shader loading times, crashes, stutters, poor performance, and other assorted issues. Last evening, Naughty Dog promised they were looking into the problems, and today they’ve already released their first patch.

The Last of Us Part I ver. 1.0.1.5 only weighs in at around 36 MB, and the patch notes are a bit vague, but nevertheless, here they are.

  • Fixed several performance & hitch related issues impacting some users.
  • Note: Additional improvements and investigations based on user feedback are underway.
  • Added extra crash diagnostic information to assist in investigating shader building related crashes and other common reported stability issues.

Unfortunately, players who have already downloaded The Last of Us Part I PC patch don’t seem particularly wowed. While some posting to the TLOU Part I Steam discussion forum report marginally-faster shader loading and other improvements, others say crashes and other problems have remained the same or even become worse. In other words, this patch isn’t a miracle cure, but merely a first Band-Aid, with a good number of additional updates likely being required. Hopefully, Sony, Naughty Dog, and port developer Iron Galaxy put the work in to make things right.

Naughty Dog’s support site currently lists the following TLOU Part I “known issues,” so presumably, this is what they’ll be focusing on in the near term.

  • Loading shaders takes longer than expected
  • Performance and stability is degraded while shaders are loading in the background
  • Older graphics drivers leads to instability and/or graphical problems
  • Game may be unable to boot despite meeting the minimum system requirements
  • A potential memory leak

The Last of Us Part I is currently available on PC and PS5. Anyone out there trying to play the game on PC? What has your experience been like?
