The Last of Us Part I PC Update 1.0.1.7 Fixes Numerous Crashes, Next Patch Drops Friday

The Last of Us Part I launched on PC last week, but as we’ve reported, the Iron-Galaxy-developed port arrived in rough shape, with players complaining of exceptionally long shader loading times, crashes, camera jitters, poor performance, and other assorted issues. Naughty Dog and Iron Galaxy have already issued a pair of hotfixes for the game (patch notes here and here) and now they’ve delivered a third, which fixes some control issues and a variety of crashes.   • Fixed an issue which could cause the Xbox controller stick inputs to erroneously read as zeros for brief periods of time
  • Fixed an issue where the ‘Reset to Default’ function in the Graphics menu under Settings could make improper selections
  • Fixed an issue where the HUD performance monitors could impact performance when enabled
  • Fixed an issue where a crash could occur when using [ALT+ENTER] to toggle between Fullscreen and Windowed modes
  • Fixed an issue where a memory crash could occur during the transition from the end of the game into the credits sequence
  • Fixed an issue that could cause a crash while the game launched
  • Added additional crash report logs to provide further insight for developers
  • Added a new feature where users will be prompted to enable additional GPU diagnostic tooling following a GPU-related crash (optional and only enabled for the current gameplay session)

Unfortunately, some players may notice something missing from the above notes. Previously, Naughty Dog promised to address annoying camera jitters in this patch, but unfortunately, their “solution” caused more issues, so a fix has been pushed to a future patch.

“We previously aimed to have a fix for camera jitters related to mouse controls. However, to address unexpected issues this update caused, we’ve pushed this fix toward a later patch. Our team is continuing to work toward future improvements and patches, including eventual Steam Deck verification. We will keep you updated on future patch plans, including this week’s patch on Friday.”

In addition to Naughty Dog’s patch, NVIDIA released a GeForce Driver Hotfix today, which should resolve some issues those trying to play The Last of Us Part I on RTX 30-series GPUs have been having. You can get more information on that here. Naughty Dog has also made it clear getting TLOU Part I up to snuff will be a priority over verifying the game for Steam Deck.

The Last of Us Part I can be played on PC and PS5. Naughty Dog is promising their next PC patch is coming this Friday, with more details on what it will entail to come.
