This iOS 16 ‘battery’ feature won’t come to these iPhones

The iOS 16 update is now rolling out on iPhone 8 and above. The update brings several new features like a new customisable lock screen, updated Focus mode, improved privacy options and more. Among these, one iOS 16 feature that made the headlines was the battery percentage on the status bar.
Now, Apple has confirmed on its support page that not all the iPhone models that support iOS 16 will get the ability to show battery percentage on the status bar. The updated support page confirms that the older iPhone models won’t get the battery percentage feature.
According to the page, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini will miss this feature. Apple being Apple hasn’t revealed the reason why these iPhone models have been left out of this feature. The iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini are on the list and that may be because their smaller screen size. As for iPhone XR and iPhone 11, both smartphones come with the same screen size as the iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14. However, they come with a lower resolution panel and that may be one reason behind excluding the battery percentage feature. However, all these are just speculations, the official reason hasn’t been revealed by the company.
Steps to enable battery percentage on supported iPhones
Head to Settings → Battery → Show battery percentage
Other models that do not support this feature will still show the battery percentage in the Control Centre. Users can now also add the battery percentage widget on the lock screen and home page.
