Transfer news LIVE: Man Utd view on Gakpo snub, Liverpool Bellingham twist, Mudyrk latest | Football | Sport

The January transfer window is just around the corner and several Premier League clubs are already hard at work behind closed doors to establish their plan of action for the mid-season market. Just shy of £300million was spent by teams in England’s top flight in January earlier this year and it seems as though a similar collective outlay could be splashed on new players over the coming weeks as managers up and down the country look to prepare their ranks for the all-important run-in.

Liverpool delivered a huge shock on Monday when it was announced that a deal had been agreed to sign PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo, who was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United before eventually agreeing to join their Merseyside rivals. An initial transfer fee of £37m is expected to change hands between the Reds and PSV, although the eventual figure could rise by another £20m if a number of performance-related bonuses are met.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have reportedly opened the bidding for Shakhtar Donestk winger and long-term target Mykhaylo Mudryk, who watched the Gunners beat West Ham at home to extend their advantage at the top of the Premier League table on Monday evening. He has previously expressed a desire to join Arsenal but it remains to be seen if the north Londoners will be able to strike an agreement with his current employers over the coming days, with Mudryk only set to be made available for a move elsewhere in the event a significant offer is tabled.

The likes of Tottenham, Everton and Newcastle United will also be hard at work behind the scenes to set out their respective plans of action, but it remains to be seen which club will manage to take the biggest strides over the course of next month.
