Premier League teams and their rivals across Europe will now have their thoughts firmly fixed on the return of club football following a break for the World Cup. The tournament in Qatar is set to come to an end on Sunday, with domestic football starting up again in the aftermath. And at the start of January clubs will be given the opportunity to bolster their squads when the transfer window opens.

There could be a whole host of transfer battles in the New Year as clubs look to put themselves in the driving seat to secure trophies at the business end of the season, while other teams will be doing all they can to ensure their squads are ready for a relegation dogfight.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo will have his sights on finding a new club after leaving the Red Devils last month following an explosive interview with Piers Morgan. But he could find suitors in Europe hard to come by as his powers continue to wane.
