Liz Ho, founder of Camping Guidance, shared her top tips to save money on a holiday this year. From being flexible on flights to looking out for free activities, there are a few ways Britons can save money.
Flights
Liz told Express.co.uk: “First things first, let’s talk about flights. One way to save some cash is to be flexible with your travel dates.
“Sure, you might miss out on that Wednesday night trivia night at your local pub, but think of all the money you’ll save by travelling midweek!
“And if you’re really feeling adventurous, consider booking a connecting flight instead of a direct one. Not only can it save you some cash, but you’ll also get to explore a new city during your layover.”
Britons could save money by moving their travel date a few days forward or backward and travelling midweek.

Connecting flights aren’t always cheaper but it’s worth checking if there’s a budget connecting option to your destination.
Cooking
Liz said: “One genius travel hack that can save you a fortune is to embrace the art of meal prepping and cooking at your campsite or holiday accommodation.
“Dining out while travelling can quickly add up, but by planning and preparing your meals in advance, you can significantly cut down on your food expenses. Before departing, research local markets and grocery stores near your destination to stock up on affordable and fresh ingredients.
“By doing so, you’ll not only save money but also enjoy a more authentic, immersive experience as you savour the local flavours and ingredients of your destination.”
Eating in can save a lot of money and give tourists the chance to enjoy some local dishes at home.
If it’s a camping holiday, tourists could even enjoy their budget meal outdoors and watch the sunset.
Accommodation
Liz said: “Now, let’s talk about accommodation. Sure, luxury hotels can be nice, but have you ever tried a hostel or vacation rental?
“These options not only save you some moolah, but they also give you a chance to meet other travellers and locals. And if you’re really trying to pinch pennies, consider camping or Couchsurfing. Just read the reviews first – you don’t want to end up on the floor of someone’s creepy basement.”

Free activities
Liz said: “When it comes to activities, free is always the best price. Check out local parks, museums, and events – they often offer free or low-cost activities that can help you stretch your travel budget.
“And if you’re feeling really daring, why not take advantage of free walking tours? Not only will you learn some interesting facts about your destination, but you’ll also get some exercise – perfect after all those pastries you’ve been indulging in!”
Some museums and galleries have free entry one day of the week so it’s worth checking the website before heading out.
Tourists can also sometimes save money by booking tickets online ahead of their visit and if they’re lucky they might also get to skip the queue.
