When people enter their card details believing they are setting up a direct debit, fraudsters take this information and use it for their nefarious gain.

It could mean a person has their identity stolen, their bank account wiped, or these details used against them in future scams.

But how can Britons spot TV licence scams like this one if they receive them?

For this particular email, and scams like it, the first red flag can be found within the email address, as the real TV Licensing states its emails are always sent from either: [email protected] or [email protected].

However, this email claims to be from “Television UK Licence, Renew Direct Debit”, which is a sign a scam is taking place.
