Twitter is considering a lot of things to make their platform even better and healthier for all the people out there. One of their plans has been confirmed, Twitter considers removing the heart-shaped ‘Like’ button to promote healthy debates as the CEO Jack Dorsey admitted that he was not a fan and plans to remove it “soon”.
This was previously reported Telegraph on Monday, and it was just recently confirmed. Yes, there is no doubt that Twitter is considering removing the ‘Like’ button, but it will not “happen soon” as it is not as easy considering all of the users against removing it.
“As we’ve been saying for a while, we are rethinking everything about the service to ensure we are incentivising healthy conversation that includes the like button. We are in the early stages of the work and have no plans to share right now”, the company said.
Aside from that, the Vice President of Twitter communications, Brandon Borrman, has also stated that this decision will not happen so soon. “Short story on ‘Like’. We’ve been open that we’re considering it. Jack even mentioned it in front of the US Congress. There’s no timeline. It’s not happening ‘soon'”, he said.
The like feature was introduced in 2015 replacing the star-shaped ‘Favorite’ button. And because the like feature has been embraced by a lot of Twitter users, after hearing the announcement, they busted a lot of criticisms on Twitter that the decision is ‘idiotic’. Some even considered that this implementation might even make the troll issues worse.
The Verge even reported that “Some expressed fears that without the button, retweets and argument would be the only means of communication”. We don’t know what will happen in the near future. Twitter might consider the uproars of the people, or they might just ignore and go on with their further plans.
